To fix Error 1053 after Windows update restart, run system repair and restart update services.

Open Command Prompt (Admin) and run:
sfc /scannow
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Then open services.msc and restart:

  • Windows Update

  • BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service)

  • Cryptographic Services

Finally, restart your PC. This usually fixes the error.
